February 16-19

The third annual March to Oak Flat begins on February 16.  This is a two-day march, some run and some walk, to save sacred grounds of the San Carlos Apache people. The march is to protect the Oak Flat region from Resolution Copper, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto, a mining company headquartered in London.  Reasons to protect range from soil to water to people.

Many of us are aware of “water is life” from what we have seen on the Standing Rock reservation over the last eight months.  The San Carlos people have spoken of this same issue for many years (see this truthout article for a little history on Oak Flat and water protectors).  This year’s march continues to encourage folk to become aware of the fragility of the landscape in the face of business and government development.  Join us to listen, pray, and march in favor of the San Carlos Apache having voice and redress.

Just east of Phoenix, AZ, YCM encourages you to join us at the Oak Flat march.  Join for one day or all three.  Interested?  Please fill out the form form below and we will be in touch!
